The Young and the Restless (Y&R) recap for Wednesday, July 16, reveals that Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) will find the murder weapon in his own sleeping car and fume over the setup, so here’s what Y&R fans can expect.

On the train, Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) will talk about carrying out a preliminary investigation while they wait on the groundskeepers who were sent down the mountain to report the crime.

Although Chance obviously won’t have jurisdiction in Nice, Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) will play up his valuable skills and how trustworthy he is.

Chance will plan to question everyone about their whereabouts this evening individually, so Devon Winters (Bryton James) will assume they’re all suspects.

However, Chance will act like he’s just trying to get to the bottom of what happened.

Abby Winters (Melissa Ordway) will scoff over Cane lawyering up with Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) so quickly.

Amanda will argue that Cane is still in danger since he suspects he was the intended victim instead of Damian Kane (Jermaine Rivers).

Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), on the other hand, will point out that Cane had a motive to kill Damian since he found out they were a couple tonight.

Cane will understand why Lily would think that, but he’ll maintain that he’s innocent.

Chance will privately grill Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) about what went down, so she’ll admit to seeing a stabbed Damian in Cane’s arms before Cane lowered him to the ground.

Although Phyllis didn’t see who threw the dagger, she’ll defend Cane’s innocence.

Chance will question if Phyllis might be covering for Cane to protect her new job opportunity, but she’ll shut down that idea.

Phyllis will also mention that she was with Cane the whole time after they left the body to go find Chance.

Chance was with Cane every moment after that, so there’s no way Cane could’ve hid the dagger and bourbon bottle.

Meanwhile, Cane will have a private conversation with Amanda, who’ll push him to level with her and admit if he had something to do with Damian’s death.

Cane will be appalled over Amanda thinking the worst of him, but she’ll suggest she’s not thinking anything and is just doing what a good lawyer should.

After Amanda points out how bad things look for Cane, she’ll note that he lied to Chance about not having a way to call for help.

Cane will insist he wants Chance investigating and not some random local cop who’d botch the investigation.

Amanda will still look at Cane like he has something to hide, so Cane will get agitated and ask if she believes he killed Damian.

Over with Lily, Devon and Abby, they’ll all sit in a train car as they try to process the evening’s events.

Lily will worry about how they’re going to break the news to poor Amy Lewis (Valarie Pettiford) and Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic).

Lily will consider the possibility that the father of her children could be a murderer and won’t understand how Cane could’ve turned into such a monster.

Devon will suggest that maybe there was more going on and Damian was blackmailing Cane, but Lily will defend Damian as an innocent victim in all this.

Next, Nick will find Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) in her own sleeping car and give her updates on Damian’s grim fate.

Sharon will reel over the shocking story and worry about Phyllis facing more trauma.

Nick will eventually suspect Cane might point the finger and try to draw suspicion away from himself.

That’ll lead to Nick guessing that Cane might blame Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).

Later, Nick will come barging in the train car where Chance and Phyllis are wrapping up their discussion.

Once Nick holds up the bloody dagger in a clear bag, he’ll reveal that he found it in the bathroom of his sleeping car.

“Someone is setting me up!” Nick will declare with a scowl.
