Allison Lanier recently exited the daytime drama, as Summer Newman left the little town rather quickly to conduct some business in Milan. This seems like a short-term solution for a big issue, so how does the show make things right?
There’s A Huge Question Mark Where Summer Newman Is Concerned
Lanier’s last show as Summer was Friday, May 2. She quickly headed out of Genoa City to Milan in hopes of finding staff to replace Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), who had just quit.
With that said, as Soap Opera Digest (SOD) is noting that there are no immediate plans to recast Summer Newman – how long can the mom of Harrison Abbott (Redding Munsell) stay off the canvas?
Summer can barely function some days without tucking Harrison into bed at night or swinging by the Abbott Mansion to spend time with her adopted son.
Is it realistic to think that she could remain in Milan for weeks and months, or potentially abandon him for her career if she decides to stay in Italy?
Video chats could help in the interim, but is that ‘enough’ for either Summer or Harrison?
The land of soaps can be unrealistic, but Summer spending more than two weeks in Milan seems as if the writers would stray drastically from the character’s nature.
Will Summer return to town for quickie visits, but remain off canvas, for the interim?
Summer’s Return Plane Goes MIA
It’s hard to tell where the show is going with Summer. Are they hoping Lanier will return? Are they swerving fans? No “immediate” plans to recast could mean different things to different people. Is Hunter King coming back?
With that said, if Summer’s return plane were to crash and go MIA, this could knock a new storyline wide open. It would also provide an opportunity for Summer to return at some point. Especially if her body wasn’t found amongst the rubble.
Not to mention the shock that would hit GC, Harrison, Kyle Abbott (Micheal Mealor), Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), and other loved ones.
