Fans in tears: Allison Lanier says goodbye to Y&R – Shocking truth revealed
Allison Lanier is saying goodbye to The Young and the Restless.
After three years on the popular soap opera, the 34-year-old actress revealed her time as Summer Newman will be coming to an end this week. She announced the news in a message on X on Wednesday, April 30.
“Hi guys!! This Friday, May 2nd, will be my last episode on Y&R!” she revealed. “I’ve loved the journey and learned so much but it’s time to grow in a different direction… very grateful for all of the Y&R fans who have supported me <3”
Fans shared their reactions in the comments, with many expressing mixed emotions.
“This is so unfortunate,” one user wrote. “I loved seeing you on my tv screen. 😫I hope this isn’t the end of Summer although the next actress will have a lot of work to do.”
Another commented: “Oh, I hate to see you go! I hope to see you in the future on something else. Good luck!”
Lanier has played Summer, the daughter of Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), since 2022 after taking over the role from Hunter King. The character was first introduced in 2006, and it is unclear if there are plans to recast it.
PEOPLE has reached out to a rep for The Young and the Restless for comment.

In 2024, Lanier landed her first Daytime Emmy nomination for her performance. At the time, she took to Instagram to celebrate the career achievement.
“Incredibly grateful and honored (also shocked!) to be nominated for the @daytimeemmys this year!” the caption read. “Alongside some of the most talented and wonderful people. Big congrats especially to my lovely @youngandrestlesscbs fam, cast and crew, for all of the nominations !!!!”
Before joining The Young and the Restless, she appeared as a recurring character, Annabelle, in season 3 of Red Oaks, along with independent films It Happened in L.A., Fish Bones and Mia.
Lanier’s exit comes just months after Colleen Zenk left the long-running series. She took on the part of villainess Aunt Jordan in November 2023, but her character died by drinking poisoned tea in a January 2025 episode.

Trevor St. John also recently said farewell to The Young and the Restless after appearing in more than 200 episodes as billionaire Tucker McCall. The star expressed his “heartfelt gratitude” for fans of the soap in two sweet posts on his social media in June 2024.
“Dear #YR @YandR_CBS @YRInsider #YoungandRestless fans: As you well know, Tuckers come and Tuckers go, and so the cycle continues… this Tucker is in his go phase…” he wrote in part.
“THANK YOU! ♥️🙏,” he added.
