The Young And The Restless Spoilers: Summer’s Exit – 3 Reasons She’s ‘Gone’, 3 Return Storylines
The Young and the Restless spoilers state that Summer Newman has officially left the canvas as of Friday, May 2. Actress Allison Lanier gave fans a heads up about this on the social media platform X, noting she was leaving the soap.
Still, the plot thickens as Soap Opera Digest (SOD) is reporting that sources say there are no immediate plans to recast Summer Newman. On the May 2 episode, Summer took an emergency trip to Italy to find the perfect hire for Marchetti.
After all, her two top employees, Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), resigned from the company on the same day!
Summer could possibly be away from storylines for months at this point (maybe longer), so what would keep her from coming back home?
1) Storyline Explanation For Summer’s Absence – She’s Just In Milan …
The show could just keep Summer in Milan for an extended period of time. As a lot happens offscreen, Harrison Abbott (Redding Munsell) could visit her in Italy at some point over the weeks and months ahead. Summer could genuinely struggle to find help for Marchetti.
Then again, Summer could visit GC, and the character could remain offscreen. A Summer recast could eventually be filled, whether she strolls back into town mid-‘summer’ (see what we did there), the fall, or even the holidays.
There’s always the possibility that Summer decides to move offices to Milan.
The last conversation she had with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) was that he was planning on moving in with Claire Newman (Hayley Erin), so Summer may feel as if this is something she can’t sit around and witness. Summer will eventually come home, but perhaps she’ll drag her feet for a reason.
2) Storyline Explanation For Summer’s Absence – A Plane Crash
With that said, it still would seem off if Summer left GC, even for months, considering how much she loves Harrison and how much he loves her. Visits aren’t the same as being in the same town.
Could Summer go missing after a plane crash, whether the aircraft has an accident on the way to Milan or on the way back? Summer could be presumed dead, only to pop back up in GC, very much alive.
3) Storyline Explanation For Summer’s Absence – An Injury
Along the same lines, could Summer suffer an injury at some point during her time away from town? A plane crash could result in her missing, but what if she lands in a coma?
Maybe she gets into some sort of accident in Milan that lands her in a coma? This could explain her absence, and awakening from said coma could explain her return!
