The Young and the Restless

“Shock Exit! Allison Lanier Quits Young & Restless — Fans Stunned!”

Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) dance card may be a little less full this, er, summer! Allison Lanier, who joined The Young and the Restless in 2022 as Summer Newman, is exiting the top-rated soap opera. The actress announced the news on her X, formerly Twitter, account.

“Hi guys!!” Lanier began her post on social media. “This Friday, May 2nd, will be my last episode on Y&R! I’ve loved the journey and learned so much but it’s time to grow in a different direction… very grateful for all of the Y&R fans who have supported me <3.”

“Aww Allison #TeamSummer is sad to see you go! Enjoyed what you brought to the role of Summer, and what you gave to Skyle and Summance,” posted @alovelygrl in response. “We would have loved more time with you in [the] role but know that did leave a mark! 💛💛💛💛😬 #YR.”

During Lanier’s tenure on the show, Summer re-tied the knot with Kyle (Michael Mealor). The two came into conflict over Kyle’s support of Claire (Hayley Erin). Kyle was willing to give Claire the benefit of the doubt. He felt she was manipulated by evil Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk).

Summer, however, was more guarded — especially over the issue of Claire being Harrison’s (Redding Munsell) nanny.

Kyle and Summer split up, and he became romantically involved with Claire. We recently saw Kyle and Summer share some scenes, and it was clear that Summer still had some unresolved feelings for her ex.

We’ve got to say goodbye to the Summer

Ironically, Victor (Eric Braeden), who is Summer and Claire’s grandfather, was less squeamish about Kyle being with Summer than he was with Claire on The Young and the Restless. Summer also had a romance with Chance (Conner Floyd), but that didn’t last long either.

Lanier was nominated last year for a Daytime Emmy in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

The actress thought she had, in her words, “zero chance,” of being nominated. She told Soap Central last year, “I was kind of putting it out of my mind. I also was working [the day the nominations came out]. And when my scenes were over, our head writer and executive producer Josh Griffith came out onto set, and I was like, ‘What’s going on here?’…I was honestly shocked.”
