General Hospital Star Giovanni Mazza’s Heartfelt Confession About Jane Elliot Leaves Fans in Tears — Heartbreaking
While Gio has been keeping his distance from the Quartermaines since discovering that he’s the biological son of one (Brook Lynn), the loss of Monica — and more specifically, the way the family came together to support one another in the wake of her passing — gave Gio a new perspective on being a Q.

In poignant scenes that aired on General Hospital on Friday, September 26, Gio said as much to Tracy, declaring that he was proud to be her great-grandson.
The thaw between Tracy and Gio is one that Giovanni Mazza (Gio) can get behind, given how much he adores Jane Elliot (Tracy) — even if he initially found working with the Port Charles legend to be more than a little intimidating!
This Magic Moment
“When I first started on the show, I was very scared of her,” confesses Mazza, who made his GH debut in May 2024. “Just because she is so iconic and she is so powerful and very focused in her craft. You sort of have to earn her respect to some degree.”
Mazza says that he and Elliot have come a long way since those early days. “It kind of happened over time,” he grins.
“I can’t pinpoint a specific moment, but earlier this year, we were just doing a scene and I was coming from a very personal place, and she was coming from a very personal place, and we sort of just connected.
It was just such an authentic connection — it’s something that actors dream about, that type of connection with their scene partner, and Jane is juts one of the greatest scene partners ever!
“Ever since that moment,” he continues, “I’ve really looked forward to doing scenes with her because that connection that we feel is genuinely one of the great joys of my life.
Doing scenes with her, it’s just like, ‘Okay, how can we respond to each other? How can we make this scene the absolute best scene that we can possibly make it?’
And a lot of it comes from just letting go, I think. We don’t have any preconceived notions of how to play certain things.”
As an example, Mazza points to the encounter that unfolded between Gio and Tracy when he returned to the Quartermaine mansion for the first time after the truth about Brook Lynn and Dante being his parents was exposed at the Nurses’ Ball.
Recounts Mazza, “Gio comes home, and Tracy is there, and I had no idea that I was going to break down in those scenes.
But she was so powerful and so emotional that I couldn’t help it. I think we cut it so that we could go back and film the tag again because I totally lost it for a couple of seconds — like, I genuinely broke down from her acting because it was so beautiful. What I was witnessing was just magic.”
