Are General Hospital’s Sonny And Justine Headed For Romance?
Sonny has become involved with women who originally wanted to bring him down.
Meet Cute
ADA Turner (Nazneen Contractor) and Sonny (Maurice Benard) have often been at odds, since the law and the mob rarely mix. Their rivalry began to soften during softball games, where Sonny’s charm started to break through Turner’s professional resolve. Although she has worked hard to maintain her professionalism, recent events suggest her feelings may be shifting.
Justine recently stopped by Sonny’s house to ask him to stop sending gifts, but Sonny’s pint-sized daughter, Donna (Scarlett Spears), convinced her to stay for dinner. Hesitant at first, Justine eventually broke bread with the Corinthos family, revealing a softer side to the mob boss. The moment was interrupted when Drew (Cameron Mathison) arrived to blackmail Sonny into getting Michael (Rory Gibson) to allow Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) to see her children. Michael had already punched Drew for spreading false information to Wiley (Viron Weaver).
Hiding in another room, Justine overheard Drew’s threats and vowed to hold him accountable for his lies. Luckily, Martin (Michael E. Knight) stepped in before she had to intervene. Later, Justine told Sonny, Michael, and Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) that she would not let Drew get away with his scheme. Diane noticed the chemistry between Sonny and Justine and teased, “You are cultivating our acting district attorney. Are you working her or is she working you?”
Justine’s resolve to bring Sonny down has begun to waver. Spending time with him and his family has revealed a side of Sonny she never expected, challenging everything she thought she knew. Fans of GH are now watching closely to see how far this complicated romance will go.
Sonny’s History With Women in Law
Sonny has been down this road before; multiple times, actually. Whether it was a lawyer like Justine trying to bring him and his organization down, or a law enforcement officer, Sonny should be on high alert, not high a-flirt.
Hannah Scott
FBI agent Hannah Scott (Lisa Vultaggio) came to Port Charles on a high-stakes assignment: she was tasked with going undercover to gather evidence on mob boss Sonny, thanks to her striking resemblance to two of his former lovers, Brenda (Vanessa Marcil) and Lily (Lily Melgar).
What the FBI didn’t anticipate was Hannah falling for Sonny. Carly (then played by Sarah Joy Brown), involved with Jason (Steve Burton) at the time, quickly saw through Hannah’s cover, but neither Sonny nor Jason agreed with her assessment.
As Hannah and Sonny grew closer, the FBI grew concerned and brought in her father, Roy DiLucca (A Martinez) who Hannah believed was an agent but was actually only an informant. Roy infiltrated Sonny’s organization, taking on duties at the Corinthos coffee warehouse.
Using intelligence supplied by Jason and Carly, Sonny eventually discovered Roy and Hannah’s double game but played along long enough to feed false information to the FBI. When the truth came out, Sonny ended the relationship and kicked Hannah out of his penthouse, refusing to speak with her despite her pleas.
Hannah later became the FBI liaison to the Port Charles Police Department, where she briefly got involved with Sonny’s longtime adversary, Taggert (Réal Andrew). Both Hannah and Roy found themselves targeted by their corrupt FBI supervisor, Agent Larkin, whose criminal activities kept them under threat.
Roy and Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman) traveled to the Caribbean to gather evidence against Larkin, but before they could act, Hannah was kidnapped. Sonny, Taggert, and Roy teamed up to rescue her, earning Sonny amnesty from the FBI and freeing Roy from his obligations. Ultimately, Hannah chose to continue her FBI career with a reassignment to Alaska, leaving Port Charles behind
Reese Marshall
FBI agent Reese Marshall (Kari Wuhrer), who specialized in finding missing children. Reese arrived in Port Charles to help locate Sonny’s kidnapped daughter, Kristina, and quickly became involved when his other children, Morgan and Michael, were also targeted by Faith Roscoe (Cynthia Preston). Reese’s personal history—her own son had been abducted and killed—drove her dedication to the case.
As she tracked Faith and worked to rescue Sonny’s children, Reese developed a romantic connection with Sonny, even as her superiors pressured her to gather evidence against him. She resisted betraying Sonny, though she reluctantly documented his criminal activities following a violent retaliation against a rival family. Reese’s loyalty and bravery were tested during life-threatening events, including a car explosion and violent confrontations with Sonny’s enemies.
She also helped Sonny expose the corruption of Federal Prosecutor John Durant (Corbin Bernsen), using her FBI skills to gather critical evidence.
Despite tender moments hinting at a real romance, Reese’s past secrets, dangerous situations, and Sonny’s violent world created constant obstacles. Their relationship further fractured after a hospital shootout and the fallout from her brief liaison with Ric Lansing. Reese’s story ended tragically when she died in the Port Charles train crash in November 2005.
