General Hospital

Goodbye General Hospital: First Lucky, Now [Spoiler]! Who’s Next? – Is It Drew?

What’s a sure way to make a General Hospital exit a bigger bummer than it already was? Make it a double exit, that’s how. But alas, that’s just what the ABC soap did when Jonathan Jackson packed up Lucky and left Port Charles with son Aiden in tow — and during LGBTQ+ Pride Month, no less.

Colin Cassidy had only taken over the role of Liz and Lucky’s son in 2024 (replacing Tristan Riggs, who had replaced Enzo De Angelis).

Five-time Emmy winner Jackson had only been back on the show for nine months when Liz’s rejection of Lucky’s proposal prompted him to hit the road again.

Jackson has said that he doesn’t expect the show to recast in his absence, as it did in 2000 when Bold & Beautiful alum Jacob Young (ex-Rick) stepped in and 2003 when then-future Days of Our Lives Emmy winner Greg Vaughan (ex-Eric) assumed the role.

But if a new Lucky were to be hired — and hey, it just happened with Michael — “on a personal level, I would say, ‘Well, that’s too bad,’” Jackson told TV Insider. But “that’s their decision… If they need to move on [to another actor], then I respect that.”

The question now is, are more cast changes afoot? We know that Kelly Thiebaud is returning — maybe as Britt, maybe not.

But is anyone else leaving? It certainly seems like Cameron Mathison must be coming to the end of his run, as Drew’s list of misdeeds has put the character in everyone’s crosshairs

. (Perhaps we’ll get the murder mystery that we didn’t get when Cyrus was finally killed off.) But characters from Luke Spencer to Ava Jerome have gotten out of tighter spots than Drew is in.

General Hospital viewers are fired up—and it’s all because of one man: Drew Cain. Played by Cameron Mathison, Drew’s recent actions have ignited a firestorm of backlash from fans, many of whom are not only calling for his exit but hoping for a dramatic end worthy of a murder mystery plot.

Fan Backlash Reaches a Boiling Point

For over a year, Drew Cain has been a controversial figure on GH, with audiences expressing increasing frustration over his choices. But a recent cruel act may have been the final straw.

In a scene that aired this week, Drew made a disturbing comment within earshot of young Wyatt Corinthos, implying that his father, Michael, no longer wanted him or his sister because he had a new baby. Viewers were shocked—and social media lit up in protest.

Fans flooded platforms like X (formerly Twitter), calling Drew’s behavior abusive and emotionally damaging. One user wrote,

“What Drew just did is 100% mental abuse. He is literal human waste. It’s time to take out the trash.” Another suggested a dramatic end, begging the writers for a “soap heaven” murder mystery with Drew at the center.

A Long List of Sins

While the Wyatt incident was extreme, it’s just one in a series of questionable moves by Drew since his release from Pentonville Prison. Here’s a quick rundown of the misdeeds that have painted him as a villain in viewers’ eyes:

  • Burned Bridges: Drew turned on Nina for reporting him and Carly to the SEC, firing her from Crimson and replacing her with Carly—only to later reverse the decision and begin a romantic relationship with Nina again.

  • Romantic Whiplash: After dumping Carly over the sudden return of his twin brother, Jason Morgan, Drew began pursuing Willow, despite her being married to his nephew Michael and asking him repeatedly to stop.

  • Betrayals: He paid off Cody to keep his affairs a secret, manipulated Curtis, tried to demolish the Quartermaine family crypt, and even blackmailed Portia using information about a drugging incident.

  • Corruption in Office: Now a congressman, Drew has reportedly abused his power, targeting Mayor Laura Collins and attempting to push out Sonny Corinthos, using blackmail and political maneuvering.

And perhaps the most underhanded move of all? Bribing a hospital clerk in Germany to lie to Willow, telling her that Michael refused to see her—an emotional betrayal that hasn’t yet come to light in the storyline.

Calls for a Dramatic Exit

With so many wrongs stacking up, fans are actively fantasizing about Drew’s demise. Suggestions range from a hit ordered by Sonny or Jason, to a fatal accident caused by Portia in a fit of rage, or even a “disappearance” orchestrated by Tracy Quartermaine.

The most popular idea? A suspenseful, multi-episode murder mystery that would leave fans guessing who finally took him out.

Despite the clamor, many longtime viewers are skeptical that head writer Frank Valentini will go that far. There’s speculation that Drew will continue as an antagonist, further driving plot tension, especially while Willow remains under his influence.
