Sad news – Quitting Time: General Hospital’s Sonny Reaches the End of the Line
We’ve been saying for years that General Hospital should get Sonny out of the Mob. How many times, we wondered, could ABC’s daytime drama play the same storylines with him over and over and over?
He didn’t even stand trial for his latest murder (of a federal agent, no less). It’s repetitive and, to put it generously, less than inspiring. But at last, it seems like the powers that be are ready to shake up the status quo.
A Change Is Coming
While sedated following heart surgery in the April 28 episode (recapped here), Sonny told a vision of his late father Mike that yeah, it was time for him to get divorced from the Mob.
Heck, it was past time, the don realized, what with son Michael having become the latest loved one to get caught in the crossfire of his criminal lifestyle.
He couldn’t afford to twiddle his thumbs any longer and simply hope that Dante, Kristina, Avery or Donna wouldn’t be the next of his kids to become collateral damage.
What’s Next?
The question is, if Sonny stops being the godfather of Port Charles, what will he do with his time? Crime has paid him so well that he could just retire.
(Review his misdeeds here.) But that doesn’t seem like him, does it? With Lois on the canvas, Sonny could restart L&B Records — and potentially lure old flame Brenda back to head it up with her pal.
(Vanessa Marcil does love to tease fans with a possible return.)
But there are, in fact, almost a zillion different directions in which the soon-to-be-former gangster can take his life. Check out just a few of them in the below photo gallery of possible next moves for Sonny.
