Actor Chad Duell had played the role of Michael Corinthos for years on General Hospital. However, he left the role earlier this year. While speaking with some of his co-stars, he reflected on the decision, including the loss of a loved one and what will happen next in his life.
Fans Saw Chad Duell’s Last Days On General Hospital Earlier This Year
Duell is best known to soap fans for playing Michael Corinthos on General Hospital. First taking on the role in 2010, he announced he would be leaving the soap towards the end of 2024.
Duell would ultimately leave the soap towards the end of January 2025. Fans would see Michael get caught in a fire at his adoptive father Sonny Corinthos’ office, causing the character to seek treatment in Germany. That said, the character was last “seen” in a photo the following March.
Duell discussed leaving the soap on The Daily Drama podcast, which is hosted by his General Hospital co-stars Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson. While speaking with the two, he touched on his father’s passing and his future with the soap.
During the conversation, Duell noted that he wanted time to figure out where his life should take him. He shared, “It’s a life adjustment. A lot of stuff’s been going on in my life.”
As he continued, Duell also touched on the passing of his father and the impact it had. He continued, “There’s a few things behind it but one thing I’d just say is, you know, like people know, my dad passed away.
Yeah, and I’m still coming to terms with that. And so my intention was to spend some time back in Arizona. But that’s becoming a little more harder to do [with loves one in school.]”
While taking a break for the time being, Duell shared that he wouldn’t be against returning to the soap in the future.
He noted, “Obviously with Frank [Valentini, series executive producer] and everything, I left the door open there.
Right now, I’m just trying to grow in ways that maybe I feel like I stifled myself in certain aspects, and sometimes you need to take drastic steps or make yourself feel uncomfortable to take a step.”
Duell Also Touched On What The Future Might Have In Store For Him
At the time, he also teased on what he had planned for the future. He noted, “Come January, I have a few things planned that I wanna do for myself, and it’s different because I have a kid now, but also at the same time, for him, and me as well, and everybody, it’s doing what’s best for me, spiritually, mentally.”
“Everything will only reflect my energy in a better way towards everybody around me. I want to make sure that I take care of myself.”
“There’s a lot of work I have to do to achieve the potential that I know I have. Not just career-wise but in a lot of aspects. I feel like I’ve been more-so in a bubble of comfort for such a long time.”
Duell had previously announced his departure from the soap on social media. While there, he hinted he could return, or at least appear in new projects. As he wrote, “This isn’t a goodbye. It’s a see you later.”
