Sadly, Bill passed away in January 2024 at age 98. The show has paid respects not only to him, but also to Doug in touching scenes. Now, Susan shared a visit she had to Bill’s resting place, paying her respects.

A Perfect Time

On Instagram, Hayes shared some pictures that included her at Bill’s grave, on a boat with a lovely sunset in the background, and with a young friend.

She lovingly wrote, “I advise anyone over 40 to cultivate young friends. Their support and companionship is quite different from your old friends and keeps you in the thick of life.

I am blessed with six grandsons – each one endowed with the genes of Bill Hayes, each one married to a top-tier lady.”

She continued with, “As fathers, husbands, creators, [and] citizens, they shine with love and purpose. Got to mingle with a crowd of them in Michigan this weekend.

Visited my husband’s last resting place, where I will join him one day. Shared laughs and kisses, cherry pie, and a sunset cruise on Lake Michigan where I, of all people, spied the famous wreck of The Metropolis. A private time, a poignant time, a perfect time.”
