Al Calderon Exits Days of our Lives as Javi Hernandez Is Set to Be Recast
Al Calderon is saying goodbye to Days of our Lives—at least for now. The actor, who debuted in February as Javi Hernandez, will soon vacate the role after landing a series regular gig on NBC’s primetime medical drama Brilliant Minds, Deadline reported.
Although Calderon has already filmed episodes that will air through May 2026, the character of Javi is set to be recast moving forward.
Who Is Javi Hernandez?
A spokesperson for DAYS made it clear in a statement: “We do not comment on the contract status of our actors, but fans should not worry. Javi is alive and well in Salem.”
The decision to recast rather than write off the character signals that Javi still has a story to tell—just with a new face.
Javi arrived in Salem as a complex, layered character—passionate, professional, and full of fire. One moment, he’s the guy you want in your corner, and the next, you’d better hope you’re not on his bad side.
That blend of warmth and unpredictability quickly made him a standout in Salem.
While Calderon’s portrayal brought undeniable charisma to the role, fans will get the chance to see a new actor take over and continue Javi’s journey.
Given how rich and mysterious the character already is, the door’s wide open for new twists.
Calderon’s Primetime Leap
Calderon will now star opposite Zachary Quinto on Brilliant Minds, a drama inspired by the real-life work of neurologist Oliver Sacks.
Calderon plays Nurse Scotty Silva, a stylish, sharp, and sociable leader who runs Bronx General with heart and humor. Filming for Season 2 is currently underway in Toronto.
His move to primetime marks a major step in an already impressive career. His background as a bilingual actor, singer, and dancer brings versatility and depth to every role.
