Already?! Days of Our Lives Is Introducing a Brand New Belle
It didn’t take long for Days of Our Lives to upend Belle’s life from pretty much the moment Martha Madison returned to the soap.
Belle divorced Shawn after countless years together and then she accepted Jada and Paulina’s offer to switch from defense and corporate attorney, to Salem’s DA.
In the process, of course, she ticked off EJ, but as Belle just told Marlena, she can handle his tantrums!
That’s especially true now as it sounds like Belle’s transformation into an entirely new character is far from over.
When Madison spoke with Soap Opera Digest about her relationship with TV mom Deidre Hall, she noted that the legendary Days of Our Lives actress is “a take-no-prisoners kind of person.”
And that’s how Madison herself was raised in a family full of women. “My grandmother was that way,” she shared. “My sisters are that way.
I probably am that way to a certain degree. My character is now becoming that way, and I love that. I really, really do. I think that we have told enough stories of the damsel in distress.
I’d like to tell stories about a successful, confident, headstrong woman.”
It’s clear that Belle is carving her own path. She may have lamented to her mom a little while back that she’s not sure who she is without Shawn, but from what we’ve seen, it’s an incredible, strong woman.
That’s not to say Belle wasn’t before, but now that she’s on her own, she gets to shine in a whole new way.
Melinda was cut throat when she was DA, even going after folks we wished she hadn’t.
EJ, on the other hand, was self-serving and power-hungry, prosecuting who he wanted when he wanted — and dropping the rest to cut deals.
Belle may be just what the town needs. She knows right from wrong and can throw the book at the bad guys, while working with those who’ve just made mistakes. And in Salem, that’s a good chunk of the town!
If someone like Jan were ever to return to wreak havoc on the town and Belle’s loved ones, we don’t see the new DA being the one in danger anymore. In fact, we could see her being the one to take the villain down for good, rather than Shawn!
And as for romance, last time around, Belle pulled back from EJ to make both Sami and Shawn happy.
But a new, take-no-prisoners Belle could actually make that relationship work as she goes after what she wants, rather than what others want or expect of her.
Yeah, EJ may not be the “smart” choice, but if he ends up making Belle happy, we’ve got no doubt she can handle him! If he survives his soon-to-happen shooting, that is…
