Todd Chrisley’s love isn’t totally blind.

A month after he and wife Julie Chrisley were released from prison after being pardoned by Donald Trump for their tax-related crimes, the Chrisley Knows Best patriarch revealed his initial reaction to seeing his wife of nearly 30 years for the first time since 2022.

“I will say you set the bar low,” Todd told his wife during the July 23 episode of the Chrisley Confessions podcast. “You had nowhere to go but up.”

And the 56-year-old, who was mostly able to hide his post-prison look from the public, stressed to his wife he was just trying to be honest.

“When I first saw you when I got out of that car,” he recalled. “I started thinking about going back. But then I thought, let me embrace this. This is a moment.”

As he put it, “It was a rough moment, because I’d never seen you dark in my life.”

Naturally, Julie did not take to Todd’s candor.

“Are you kidding me right now?” The 52-year-old shot back. “I didn’t have any choice.”

Indeed, Julie—mom to Chase Chrisley, 29, Savannah Chrisley, 27, Grayson Chrisley, 19, and Chloe Chrisley, 12, with Todd—shared that while she found a few fellow inmates to take care of her hair, it wasn’t an ideal situation.

Eventually, she decided she would let her hair fade to gray until her expected release in August 2026, but in the meantime, she said it was a rough look.

“Even my friends were like, ‘You need to do something with your hair,’” she recalled. “I was like, ‘I don’t care. I’m letting it grow out until I get home.’”

As she noted, “It’s really hard to be a good blonde in prison, especially when you have gray like I have.”

Still, Julie admitted there was one silver lining to the photographic evidence of her post-prison look, which saw her gray hair fading into a box-dyed brown.

“Now, see, people think when they see me, ‘Oh my god, you look so good!’” Julie joked. “And I’m thinking, ‘Yeah, ‘cause you saw that picture of me.’”
