Julie Chrisley Opens Up About ‘Deteriorating’ Health Behind Bars
Julie Chrisley is talking about the conditions she struggled with in prison. She shared that they took a physical toll on her body and that her health was deteriorating because of it.
Looks like we’re going to be hearing more about this the more Julie and husband Todd Chrisley talk about their prison stay and the aftermath.
The former Chrisley Knows Best star was previously convicted with Todd for fraud charges in 2023 and went to prison. Julie was held at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. She claimed she developed several health issues, including asthma, while behind bars.

“I could see my health deteriorating,” Julie shared during their ABC News Studios’ IMPACT x Nightline’s The Chrisleys: Life After Lockup special.
She struggled with asthma among other health issues during her 28 months behind bars. Savannah Chrisley made similar claims about the facility Julie stayed in and the one Todd was in too. She talked about abysmal prison conditions that her parents suffered.
It was so bad that Julie literally burst into tears when she heard she and Todd had been given a presidential pardon and would be released.
“In the visitation room, thank goodness there’s air conditioning, but outside the visitation room? There is zero air conditioning and the heat index was between 105 and 110 (degrees),” Savannah shared on her podcast. “That’s what mom’s living in. In conditions like that, with absolutely no air.”
Savannah shared that Julie told her she got physically sick because it was so hot. “So there are these women suffering from heat exhaustion and passing out,” Savannah added. “And yet, there are service dogs that have air conditioning (in the same facility). None of it makes sense to me. It’s beyond inhumane.”
Savannah spoke out about prison reform regularly and may even make it a political platform in the future. For now, she’s doing the rounds with her parents. The Chrisleys are sharing their experiences on various shows, including a new Lifetime series.
