Chase Chrisley opens up about going to rehab for addiction, ‘buried’ trauma

Chase Chrisley has revealed his decision to enter treatment amid struggles with alcohol.

In an emotional scene shown in the series finale of Lifetime’s “The Chrisleys: Back to Reality,” which released Sept. 16, Todd and Julie Chrisley’s second eldest son has a heart-to-heart with his father as they are on a flight traveling to a rehabilitation facility.

“I just need to go and handle a lot of trauma that I have buried. I just thought that I could bury it, bury it, bury it,” he tells Todd Chrisley, per People and E! News.

He goes on to admit he’s “scared” about starting addiction treatment and says, “I just gotta find myself,” according to the outlets.

In response, the 29-year-old’s dad issues a pep talk, saying, “My life’s story is not going to be that I went to prison for 28 months. Your life story does not have to be that ‘I had an alcohol and substance abuse problem.'”

In January, Chase Chrisley was arrested in Atlanta on suspicion of a “simple assault” incident at a sports bar. According to police, he slapped a person twice and refused to leave the premises.

In a statement to outlets including People and The Associated Press, his lawyers at the time said, “Chase Chrisley had done the right thing that evening by calling a driver to take him home. He did not assault anyone. Chase was trying to close out his tab and leave.”

After Todd Chrisley left his son at the rehab facility, he said, “You know, I thought going through this with (eldest son) Kyle would kill me. But maybe it was preparation for what I’m going through today.”

Chase Chrisley, who’s the co-owner of a vodka company, will appear on the Sept. 18 episode of “Tamron Hall” to open up about his arrest.

He expressed disagreement with his daughter Savannah Chrisley’s advice to take a “tough love” tactic rather than “babying” Chase.

“In my heart, what I believe is in the best interest of my son is that he is literally getting the help that he needs. He is doing what he’s supposed to be doing. He’s following his program. He is being held accountable. Is there one thing I’ve not held him accountable for?” he asked Julie Chrisley.

Todd continued, “Have I not said: ‘This is the plan. This is what you will do; if you step out of it, this will be the consequences?’ I have said that.”

“My son is doing good today, right?” he said, to which his wife replied affirmatively. “My son is doing great today.”

In May, Julie and Todd Chrisley were released from their respective prisons in Lexington, Kentucky, and Pensacola, Florida. The couple, who’d been found guilty of conspiring to defraud community banks in Atlanta out of more than $36 million, had served more than two years of their prison terms, which were commuted following Trump’s full pardon.
