The Young and the Restless (Y&R) recap for Wednesday, July 9, reveals that Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) will snoop for Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) while Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) keeps Adam Newman’s (Mark Grossman) secret from Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn).

On the train, Nick will give Sharon updates on his conversation with Phyllis and how he tried to steer her away from siding with Cane.

Since Nick couldn’t get through to Phyllis yet, he’ll urge Sharon to quiz Phyllis next and try to figure out Cane’s full agenda.

Nick will suggest they need to know what they’re really up against if they’re going to protect themselves – and that goes for Phyllis, too.

Meanwhile, Phyllis will warn Cane that pining for Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) will be a distraction, but he’ll assure her that it won’t interfere with his goals in Genoa City.

Although Phyllis will act like siding with Cane over Nick should be enough to prove her loyalty, Cane won’t be convinced.

Phyllis will eventually admit the Newmans have figured out that Cane’s up to something.

That’ll lead to Phyllis spilling that the Newman clan knows about Cane buying up GC real estate and the Chancellor divisions that Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) sold off.

Cane will question how they found out since they’re cut off from the outside world and will tell Phyllis that uncovering the source for him would mean a great deal.

Once Nick and Sharon make it through the maze, they’ll cross paths with Cane and Phyllis. Sharon will speak with Phyllis alone, but it won’t take Phyllis long to figure out Nick sent her to snoop.

Phyllis will rant about this “triangle” before clarifying that she doesn’t really mean a romantic one in this case.

It’ll be more about Nick derailing the connection Phyllis has formed with Sharon, so Phyllis will try to put a stop to it.

Sharon will still fish to find out which side Phyllis has chosen, but Phyllis will claim she hasn’t picked one yet.

That said, Phyllis will complain about the people in her past viewing her as a nuisance and will seem like she views Cane as a better option.

There’ll be some talk about Cane’s real estate moves in Genoa City, but Phyllis will point out that she would’ve told Cane the info came from Adam if she was out for herself.

Sharon will hope Phyllis is going to keep that secret under wraps, but Phyllis won’t confirm or deny her plans.

Back with Nick, he’ll bicker with Cane again and admit he’s still waiting to hear that the Newmans have nothing to worry about.

Cane will choose his words carefully and suggest he has no doubt that the Newmans will always be fine, so a suspicious Nick will shake his hand.

Next on Wednesday’s Y&R episode, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) will run into Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) near the pool.

Billy will end up admitting he still wants to help Cane go after Chancellor, so Jack won’t be happy about that.

Between Billy putting faith in untrustworthy Cane and losing focus at Abbott Communications, Jack will have multiple reasons to be upset.

Billy will defend his goal and point out that he’s got an agreement with Sally, who’s going to run Abbott Communications if his Chancellor plans work out.

Jack will blow up over Billy agreeing to something like that without consulting him.

Diane will also question Sally’s experience and doubt that Cane can even pull his Chancellor mission off.

Since Jack invested in Billy’s future at Abbott Communications, he’ll be fed up over his brother losing interest in another project and going after Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) once more.

Jack will warn Billy to be careful that he doesn’t screw himself out of two companies, so Billy will ask if that’s a threat.

It’ll leave Billy wondering if Jack’s talking about going back on his investment.
