General Hospital (GH) spoilers show that beloved soap vet Erika Slezak has joined the ABC soap opera cast.
This has led many fans to speculate that she has been cast as a replacement for the late Leslie Charleson’s character, Monica Quartermaine. Here’s what to know.
Erica Slezak Starred on OLTL
Erika Slezak starred as Victoria Lord on the defunct ABC soap One Life To Live for over forty years. She debuted in 1971 and remained committed to her role until the show left daytime in 2012. There was a brief, forgettable Hulu reboot which was canceled in 2013.
After OLTL was cancelled, Slezak appeared on multiple prime time shows including Blue Bloods and The Resident.
Is The Soap Replacing Leslie Charleson?
The show’s press release announcing Slezak’s signing did not reveal who she will play, causing some fans to speculate on social media.
Many fans are convinced that Slezak is taking over as matriarch Monica Quartermaine; Leslie Charleson played the part until her death.
Charleson starred as Monica for nearly 50 years and was last on air in 2023. She passed in January at the age of 79 and had been experiencing ill health for years.
The show broadcast a tribute episode for Monica in April.

Other fans disagreed with the recast opinion, with one writer posting that they didn’t think that GH Executive Producer Frank Valentini would try to replace Monica. Michael Fairman reported that the role is short-term, airing in fall.

If Erika Slezak isn’t playing Monica Quartermaine who do you think she is portraying? One logical guess is that Slezak is bringing her Llanview, PA character, Viki Lord Buchanan, to Port Charles. One big clue is that Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins) recently name dropped Viki as her newspaper boss.
