“Alison Sweeney’s Triumphant Return as Sami Brady: What to Expect in 2025”
Days of Our Lives spoilers and updates tease Alison Sweeney has left Salem as Sami Brady for now, but she’ll be back. She’s already filmed several returns that will air over the next several months.
Goodbye For Now, But She’ll Be Back
The well-known Hallmark actress has departed from the widely recognized Peacock soap opera, but she has already completed filming for several guest appearances. Alison Sweeney’s recent stint in Salem has wrapped up, marking the return of her character, Sami Brady, to her home.
However, there’s fantastic news for fans, as she has filmed two confirmed returns to the show.
The first of these will be broadcast this summer, featuring Sami honoring her late stepfather, John Black (played by Drake Hogestyn). Sweeney’s second return will be for a joyful event, as Sami comes back to assist in the celebration of Days of Our Lives’ 60th anniversary on the air.
The New Head Writers Spoke Of Upcoming Storylines
Incoming head writers Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford shared their plans for the soap with TV Guide’s Stephanie Sloane in the April 14 to May 4, 2025, issue. One of their initial storylines will focus on the departure of John Black.
Actor Drake Hogestyn, who portrayed the character since 1986 in an impressive 4,425 episodes, had to leave the role as he bravely battled pancreatic cancer.
Tragically, Hogestyn passed away on September 28, 2024. Regarding this storyline, the writers expressed, “We aimed to give John a heroic and significant farewell, while holding onto the hope that Drake could return in the future.
Cwickly And Ford Continued Talking About The Storyline
John had been absent for over nine months, and there were only so many adventures he could undertake. Acknowledging the possibility that he might not return, while still hoping for it, we needed to create an exit that would honor John, Drake, and the fans.”
Drake did live long enough, however, to be involved with and approve the exit storyline for John Black even though he couldn’t act it out.
It’s a shame that he couldn’t be at the upcoming 60th anniversary of the show; to celebrate the anniversary, the writing team revealed plans for a grand gala event.
They hinted that this celebration will feature “the return of many familiar faces, leading to a new overarching story as we move into the new year.”
Sami’s Recent Return Was When Her Son Needed Her The Most
Sami’s recent return to the screen brought her back to town just when her son needed her the most, leading to an emotional discussion about his conception. She also rekindled a romance with her ex, Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering), resulting in a brief affair.
Afterward, she left town and encountered her old friend Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel), and they decided to travel back to Europe together.
Sami isn’t the only character returning this year; confirmed returns include Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan), her son Will Horton (Chandler Massey), and his daughter, Sami’s granddaughter, Arianna Horton (Marissa Reyes).
Also, Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) and Hope Williams Brady (Kristian Alfonso) are returning, along with Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford), Jennifer Deveraux (Melissa Reeves), Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis), and Anna DiMera (Leann Hunley).
