Audra Charles had always considered herself in control—calculated, ambitious, and dangerously persuasive. She had maneuvered through Genoa City’s treacherous social and corporate circles with the precision of a chess grandmaster.

Emotions, to her, were merely tools. If they served her purposes, she embraced them. If not, she buried them.

But on this particular morning, as she sat hunched over her bathroom sink—pale and shaking—the world felt like it had tilted off its axis. The metallic taste in her mouth. The waves of nausea. The deep, unnatural exhaustion.

These weren’t just symptoms of stress. They were signs.

And the two pink lines on the pregnancy test confirmed what her heart already feared: she was pregnant.

Her hands trembled as she held the stick, her breath catching in her throat. Of all the scenarios she had prepared for—corporate takeovers, public humiliation, being outplayed in a game of deceit—this was not one of them.

This wasn’t a strategy gone wrong. This was life—raw and unstoppable—unfolding inside her body without permission.

Her mind raced. This couldn’t be happening. Not now. Not with Holden. Audra had plans. Ambitions.

She had Nate Hastings wrapped around her finger—or so she believed. With his position, his connections, and his trust, she was on the brink of turning her name into power. A baby didn’t fit into that narrative.

Especially not Holden’s baby.

He was supposed to be a fling. A moment of weakness. A spark of something dangerous—but fleeting. And yet, here she was, staring at a future that might derail everything.

The panic quickly turned to fury.

Within the hour, she stormed into Holden’s apartment, her eyes wild, her movements sharp. He had barely opened the door when she shoved the pregnancy test into his hands.

“Look at what you did,” she spat, her voice a low growl. Holden, momentarily stunned, stared at the two lines, then up at her with wide, astonished eyes.

“Is this real?” he whispered. “You’re… you’re pregnant?” She crossed her arms, glaring at him.

“Yes, Holden. I’m pregnant. And don’t look so damn happy about it.”

But he was happy. Beneath the shock and confusion, something else bloomed in Holden’s chest—an emotion he hadn’t expected.

Joy. The thought of being a father didn’t terrify him like it did Audra—it thrilled him. He reached for her hand.  “We can figure this out. We don’t have to hide it. We can—”

“No.” She cut him off, stepping back.
“You don’t understand. I can’t have this baby right now. I still need Nate. I’m not going to throw away everything I’ve worked for because of one stupid mistake.”

Holden’s expression darkened.

“A mistake? That’s what this is to you?” She hesitated, then looked away.

“I didn’t mean it like that.” But the damage was done.

“So what’s your plan, then? Lie to Nate? Tell him it’s his? What kind of twisted game are you playing, Audra?” She didn’t flinch.

“The kind I have to. Nate won’t stay by my side if he knows this baby isn’t his. And I need him. You don’t understand.”

“No,” Holden snapped.
“I understand perfectly. You’re using him. You’re using me. And now you’re going to use this child to keep your place in the game. That’s disgusting.”

The argument exploded from there—voices rising, accusations flying like daggers.

Holden demanded to be acknowledged as the father. Audra refused, insisting that keeping this secret was the only way forward. She wasn’t ready for her ambitions to be cut short.

She had clawed her way to the edge of power, and nothing—not even a child—was going to drag her back.

Holden, incensed, begged her to think of the baby. To think of what it meant to deny him his place in its life.

But Audra was immovable.
The fear in her eyes was too deep. Too real.
